Biden in Cyprus for talks on peace, Russia
US Vice President Joe Biden gives a statement to the media in front of Air Force Two, after he arrives in Larnaca international airport, Cyprus, on Wednesday.
US Vice President Joe Biden flew in to Cyprus on Wednesday for talks on the divided islands peace process and on Western sanctions against Russia over Ukraine.
Greece Holds 1st Round of Local Elections
The first round of local elections in Greece has kicked off.
Greek nationals are to elect mayors and town councils for 325 municipalities and 13 district governors.
Over 9.8 million Greeks are eligible to vote on Sunday, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.
The polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
Kaklamanis explains how he almost became Greek PM
PASOK veteran Apostolos Kaklamanis revealed in a statement on Friday that on November 8, 2011, he accepted an offer from then Prime Minister George Papandreou to become interim premier after the latters aborted effort to hold a referendum on Greeces second bailout.
In the statement, Kaklamanis explained that he held brief talks with Papandreou before agreeing to take on the role.
Coast Guard detains 32 migrants from trucks at port of Patra
Coast Guard officers at the port of Patra, western Greece, detained more than 30 would-be migrants late on Thursday following checks on truck that had been due to board cargo vessels bound for Italy.
A total of 22 migrants were found in one vessel and another 10 in the other, according to officers who gave no details about their ethnic origin.
