Fidan reiterates Turkish support for two-state solution in Cyprus

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Ankara's support for a two-state solution in Cyprus during a joint press conference with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in the occupied part of Nicosia on Wednesday.

"There is no alternative to a two-state solution for Cyprus," Fidan said, adding that Turkey would not accept any arrangement where Turkish Cypriots are relegated to minority status.

Fidan also noted that it was possible for Turkey, Greece and the two communities on the ethnically-split island to engage in dialogue and work toward a resolution.

"Let Greece, Turkey, the TRNC (sic), and Greek Cypriots focus on building an environment of peace and stability in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean," the Turkish minister said.
