Bulgaria, Romania to Offer Joint Spa Holiday Packages from 2016
Bulgaria and Romania will start offering joint spa holiday packages to tourists from the beginning of next year.
The package, which is part of the EU-funded project "Roman Thermal Spas of Europe", will offer to tourists the opportunity to stay at two spa resorts - one in Bulgaria and one in Romania.
It aims to combine travel and stay at places, which simultaneously offer both balneotherapy and heritage from the ancient Roman era, daily Dnevnik reports.
The project was presented in the Bulgarian town of Sandanski during the second congress of the Bulgarian Union of Balneology and Spa Tourism.
Joachim Lieber, General Secretary of the European Spas Association and coordinator of the project pointed that this will be the first trans-border package.
The Bulgarian-Romanian package, which will be available for online booking, will be for the length of eight days with the first couple of days to be spent in the Romanian spa resort Baile Herculane.
This will be followed by a visit to the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the spa town of Varshets, while the accommodation will be in the spa resort of Hisarya.
The package also foresees a trip to the 2019 European Capital of Culture Plovdiv and visit of its ancient Roman remains.
The "Roman Thermal Spas of Europe" project unites associations and spa resorts from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Romania.
