There was only one good aspect of the diplomatic crisis between Russia and Turkey that erupted after the downing of a Russian war plane by Turkish jets on the Syrian border nearly a year ago: The possible suspension of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project. 

The government's new draft personal data protection law is highly problematic and open to abuse, according to Ak?n Ünver, an assistant professor at Kadir Has University and an executive and supervisory board member of the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM).

It is customary for Turkish governments to keep the bar high, endorse a maximalist position and spend unnecessary political capital by asking for the impossible ahead of a negotiation. Thank God; at one stage common sense would prevail (dictated by a better analysis of what is at stake by insisting on the impossible) and Turkey would back down to a more rational line.
