Sixteen people have been arrested in connection with an international human-trafficking ring that allegedly earned 8 million euros from smuggling Syrian migrants from Turkey into Greece, European police organization Europol announced Tuesday in The Hague.

SE Europe's police chiefs meet in Belgrade

BELGRADE -- This year's General Assembly of the of Southeast Europe Police Chiefs Association (SEPCA) was held in Belgrade on Wednesday.

France said Wednesday the European Union could set up observer missions at border crossings between the Gaza Strip and Israel to try to encourage a lasting truce between the two sides.
      
The proposal by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius came as an Israeli air campaign on Gaza that has killed 208 people entered its ninth day after a failed ceasefire effort.
