New Covid-19 victim raises death toll to 91

A 47-year-old man died from complications rotating to the new coronavirus on Friday evening, bringing the total number to 91, private TV channel Skai reported.

The victim, who was being treated in Athens' Evangelismos Hospital, had been admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit on April 8.

He suffered from lymphoma and had undergone an autologous transplant in 2019. 

Covid-19 death toll in Greece rises to 81

Greece's coronavirus toll has risen to 81 with the death of a 42-year-old man in the northern port city of Thessaloniki and of an 84-year-old woman in Athens.

According to reports, the 42-year-old man died at Thessaloniki's AHEPA General Hospital on Monday night after being admitted on March 29. He is the virus' first victim from the region of Halkidiki.

Hospital workers plan rally on Wednesday to protest gag order

Workers at Evangelismos Hospital in central Athens will hold a rally at the emergency unit on Wednesday morning to protest against a decision by its director to forbid public statements by staff without his permission.
In a statement, the union of hospital doctors in Athens and Piraeus (EINAP) denounced what it called "an autocratic" move by the director.

One dead, one injured in clash in central Athens

One person died and another was injured in an attack near Athens' central Omonoia square on Thursday, police said.

Officers who were called at the scene after reports of gunshots found bullet cases at the corner of Sapfous and Menandrou, but it was not clear whether the victims - both of whom initial reports say are foreign nationals - were shot at or stabbed.

New suspect coronavirus case in Athens tests negative

Greek health authorities were briefly on alert on Friday after a man with symptoms resembling those of the novel coronavirus which first emerged in Wuhan, China and has killed more than 630 people, was admitted to the Evangelismos Hospital.
However the 22-year-old man tested negative for the coronavirus.
