Snowfall, cold snap delays air and sea travel in Istanbul

Istanbul Atatürk International Airport's meteorological emergency committee has announced that scheduled flights would decline by 15 percent on Jan. 27 due to snowfall and cold weather conditions, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Officials have urged passengers to follow recent updates with the airline companies.

More than 300 flights canceled due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul

Turkish Airlines has canceled at least 338 of its scheduled flights to and from Istanbul's Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen airports, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) has announced to reduce 20 percent of flights at Atatürk International Airport. 

Istanbul Airport prepares for new snowfall

The General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport on Jan. 25 stepped up preparations against a forecasted new wave of snowfall and cold weather, Doğan News Agency has reported. 

Officials from the DHMİ said they would assign 46 vehicles and at least 270 personnel to prevent possible problems on aprons and runways.

Bulgarian Court To Decide Fate of Varna-West Customs Officers

It is expected that the court will decide on Saturday how many of the 25 customs officers detained at Varna-west Customs House will be indicted on charges of participating in an organised criminal group for demanding and receiving bribes.

On Thursday, the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime carried out an operation searching tens of offices and private homes in Varna.

250-year-old Ottoman school restored without authorization

A 250-year-old Ottoman-era building in Istanbul's Fatih district has undergone an unauthorized restoration, prompting investigations by authorities. 

The Yusuf Ağa Sibyan Mektebi, an Ottoman-era elementary school, currently under the administration of the Independent Art Foundation, was concreted and painted with tile color on its external front.
