BRIEF: The DHKP-C and its attacks in Turkey
The outlawed far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) group aims to destabilize Turkey by targeting the country's key institutions and carrying out assassinations of top officials, Turkish security sources have said.
The DHKP-C has been listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.

A far-leftist militant who participated in an armed attack on the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul on Aug. 10 was released from prison only 33 days ago, Turkish media has reported.

1) Car bomb targets police station in Istanbul
A car bomb exploded at around 1 a.m. in front of a police station in Istanbul's Sultanbeyli district on Aug. 10. One police officer and two assailants were killed, while part of the police station and surrounding buildings collapsed and a fire erupted. (Click here for the story)
Yet another attack on the free press
This week, as usual, lots of crazy things happened in Turkey. The most mind-boggling one for me, however, was an indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office against 18 journalists. They were accused of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization," with the prosecutor asking for up to 7.5 years in prison for each.

Press council slams terrorism-related accusations against journalists
Turkey's Press Council has said "journalists are not terrorists," sternly criticizing the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's allegations of "propagandizing on behalf of terrorist organizations" against 18 journalists from nine separate Turkish dailies.
Istanbul police continue anti-terror raids
A dozen suspected militants have been remanded in custody following anti-terror raids across Istanbul on the morning of Aug. 4, police said.
Of the 23 suspects arrested in the raids, police earlier identified three as being linked to the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).

7.5 years in prison sought for 18 Turkish journalists
The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment against 18 journalists who are accused of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization," asking the court to jail them for up to 7.5 years each.
