Pinterest to appoint representative to Turkey

Pinterest agreed to a requirement to appoint a local representative in Turkey as part of a new social media law that took effect in October 2020, according to a top Turkish official.

Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan announced on Twitter that Pinterest has agreed to appoint a local representative in Turkey.

Turkey banned social media sites that have failed to hire local representatives from advertising on Jan. 19, according to the Official Gazette. 

Last October, a new social media law came into effect in the country which obligates social media sites that are accessed over a million times per day in Turkey to hire a local representative.

Dailymotion sets up legal representative in Turkey

French video-sharing technology platform Dailymotion appointed a representative in Turkey, a senior Turkish official said on Jan 9.

"One of the foreign-sourced social network provider Dailymotion with more than 1 million daily access from Turkey has appointed a representative in Turkey," Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan wrote on Twitter.

Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has said that it analyzed various messages of 102,000 suspects accused of being members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) and determined that they were sent through ByLock, the group's encrypted messaging application, Sabah daily reported on June 26.
