Ljubljana architecture students have recreated some of the iconic buildings designed by architect Jože Plečnik (1872-1957) using Lego bricks. The scale models are on show at the chapel of Fužine Castle until 30 September.

New autonomous zone established in Ljubljana
Ljubljana – A new autonomous zone has been created in Ljubljana near the Žale cemetery in premises owned by the bad bank but left to decay for several years. The users of what has been named the Participative Ljubljana Autonomous Zone (PLAC) expect they will not have to face police but support in “creating a healthy and open society”.

Short Film Festival kicks off in Ljubljana

Summer film season starts at Museum Plaza
Ljubljana – A screening of Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator on Monday evening will lift the curtain on a series of events organised at the Museum Plaza on Metelkova Street that will include mini festivals of short film and videos, and debates about the present and future of print media.

Culture Day celebrations lively despite restrictions
Ljubljana/Kranj/Vrba – Despite restrictions limiting gatherings and the cancellation of several long-standing events, Slovenians flocked to cultural institutions and points of interest on Tuesday to celebrate Culture Day, a public holiday in memory of the great Romantic poet France Prešeren.
Austrian military officer’s statue back in Tivoli Park
Ljubljana – A statue of Austrian Field Marshal Josef Radetzky (1766-1858) was erected in Tivoli Park on Tuesday, at the same spot in front of Tivoli Mansion from where it was removed in 1918, a controversial decision that some have been opposing vocally.
Archaeologists find Butcher’s Bridge remains from Medieval Ljubljana
Ljubljana – Slovenian archaeologists have discovered several finds along the river Ljubljanica during the renovation Zlata Ladjica house, including the foundations of the Butcher’s Bridge, which has since the Middle Ages been replaced by the current Shoemaker’s Bridge.
Ljubljana Plečnik landmarks listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage
Ljubljana – Ljubljana’s landmarks designed by architect Jože Plečnik (1872-1957), including the Triple Bridge, Congress Square and Žale Cemetery, have been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in line with a decision adopted by the World Heritage Committee on Wednesday.
