Bar head sentenced to six years for participation in rallies

A Turkish court has sentenced Tunceli Bar Association head U?ur Ye?iltepe to six years in jail on terrorism charges, making him the first chair of a Turkish bar association to be sentenced to prison since the 1980 military coup.

Ye?iltepe and six others were convicted of terrorist crimes stemming from their alleged membership in the outlawed Maoist Communist Party (MKP).

Russian citizen revealed to be suicide bomber who attacked Istanbul police

A female suicide bomber who detonated herself at an Istanbul police station in the touristic area of Sultanahmet has been identified as a Russian citizen named Diana Ramazova.

A policeman, Kenan Kuma?, was killed in the suicide attack by a woman at the Tourism Police Station on Jan. 6.

Outlawed Marxist Group Claims Responsibility for Istanbul Suicider

The prohibited Marxist DHKP-C group claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack carried out in Istanbul on Tuesday.

The group, which is considered a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the EU and the US, claimed responsibility for the attack on its website, the BBC reports.

Veteran communist dies at 94

One of the leading names of the Turkish communist movement, Rasih Nuri İleri, died at his home in Istanbul Dec. 6 morning at the age of 94. İleri's funeral will be held Tuesday at Bebek Mosque after noon prayers and his body will be laid to rest in the Aşiyan Cemetery.
