Safety concerns prompt end of energy saving at motorways
After turning the lights off on some motorway sections nearly three months ago to save on energy costs, Slovenia's national motorway company (DARS) has switched the lights back on, finding the safety risks to be too big.
Vucic: New Belgrade-Surcin motorway section to be opened March 31
BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Wednesday a New Belgrade-Surcin motorway section would be opened to traffic on March 31.
Once it is completed, it will provide the shortest traffic route to the Milos the Great Motorway and Cacak will be just an hour's drive away from Belgrade, Vucic said after a tour of the construction site of the Surcin 1 interchange.
DARS dimming and switching off lights along motorways
Motorway company DARS has decided to shut off lights at motorway sections where the law permits and to adjust the lighting along other sections of motorways as of Thursday. The company expects to save 2,000 megawatt hours of electricity a year or 10% of its usual consumption.
Regular, diesel outside motorways somewhat cheaper at midnight
Ljubljana – The prices of regular petrol and diesel sold outside the motorway network will go down again at midnight, with the former to be sold at EUR 1.49 a litre, down 4.4 cents, and the latter at EUR 1.641, or 3.5 cents cheaper than today, the Economy Ministry has announced on its website.
Small aircraft crash-lands on motorway, no injuries reported
Kranj – A two-seat aircraft crash-landed on the A2 motorway near Brezje in north Slovenia on Friday afternoon. There were two passengers on board and both survived the emergency landing without injuries, Kranj police said.
Govt abolishes two duties to cut diesel prices along motorways
Ljubljana – The government adopted Thursday two regulations to temporarily abolish two environmental duties on diesel at service stations on the motorway network, where prices are fully liberalised. The measure to lower the price of diesel to help hauliers will take effect on Friday, while retailers are expected to adjust their margins in a few days.
Heavy traffic, congestion on sunny weekend
Ljubljana – Traffic has been slow on Slovenian roads throughout the day and the weekend, with long waiting times at some border crossings with Croatia and Austria. The situation has been further aggravated by an accident on the busy motorway near Postojna, SW, with the travel time prolonged by 90 minutes, according to the Traffic Information Centre.

Heavy trucks banned from overtaking on all Slovenian motorways
Ljubljana – Heavy trucks are banned from overtaking on the Slovenian motorways as of today after the ban kicked in on the A1 motorway, that is between Šentilj (NE) and Koper (SW), on 15 January. A violation carries a fine of 300 euro.
Lower fines for speeding, higher for speaking on the phone kick in
Ljubljana – A set of changes to traffic rules entered into force today, substantially lowering fines for speeding while more than doubling the fine for talking on the phone while driving. The new law regulates electric scooters for the first time, and brings a novelty of turning right at a red light at crossroads with good visibility.
