Man in critical condition after elevator shaft incident; robbery suspected
A 61-year-old man has been hospitalized on life support after being found severely injured in an elevator shaft at a construction site in the northern port city of Thessaloniki.
Police are investigating reports that he may have been robbed.
Firefighters rescued him from the shaft. The Thessaloniki Security Directorate is leading the investigation.
Metro app for people with disabilities
The Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) has launched a new app on its website (stasy.gr) where passengers with mobility disabilities and disabled people in general are informed in real time about failures of elevators at stations. The application is accessible from all mobile devices.

Eiffel Tower Reopens for Tourists
Want to visit the Eiffel Tower this summer? Bring a mask and be prepared to climb some stairs.
French officials announced the Paris landmark will reopen June 25 at 10 a.m. local time. Among the safety measures being put in place: Guests ages 11 years and up will be required to wear masks, and the elevators are off-limits for now, along with the top floor.

Man crushed by elevator in central Athens
A man was killed in the central Athens district of Pangrati on Monday after being crushed by an elevator, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) reported.
According to the report, two firefighters retrieved the man's body from the bottom of the elevator shaft of an apartment building on Laertou Street. His death was confirmed at a local hospital.

Eight interventions being planned to upgrade Acropolis site
The Culture Ministry is planning eight interventions to improve access, safety and cost-efficiency at the Athens Acropolis, Greece's foremost archaeological monument, which receives some 1.5 million visitors a year.
Study approved for Acropolis' wheelchair lift
Greece's Central Archaeological Council (KAS), the government's top advisory body on the protection of antiquities, approved on Wednesday a study for the installation of a lift for disabled persons at the Acropolis Hill.
The new inclined elevator will replace the platform lift installed at the side of the hill in 2004.

Onassis Foundation pledges new elevator for Acropolis
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held talks on Wednesday at the Maximos Mansion in Athens with the president of the Onassis Foundation, Anthony Papadimitriou, who pledged to fund the installation of a new elevator for the Acropolis Hill to replace the problematic existing lift at the site.
Elevator operation suspended at Acropolis Hill due to high winds
Greece's Culture Ministry announced it is temporarily suspending the operation of tthe wheelchair lift at the Acropolis Hill in central Athens to avoid possible accidents due to the high winds blowing in the region of Attica.
Acropolis elevator back in operation
The wheelchair lift on Acropolis Hill is again available to the public following repair work, Greece's Culture Ministry said Wednesday.
In a statement earlier in the day, the ministry said the lift would remain out of service for at least four days.

Acropolis lift out of service until next week
A platform lift for disabled persons at the Acropolis Hill that broke down Tuesday is expected to go back into operation next week, culture ministry officials said Wednesday.
A spare part was ordered from Germany which means a waiting period of four days, officials said.
