Greek economy grew 0.8 percent in 2014, statistics service says
Greece's economy grew by 0.8 percent in 2014, the country's statistics service ELSTAT said on Friday in its first estimate for the full year.
GDP in real terms amounted to 186.5 billion euros compared with 185.1 billion euros in 2013. A second estimate for the year is due on Oct. 9, ELSTAT said.
Construction activity slows further in October
The decline in construction activity continued in October 2014, according to data released on Friday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Building permits declined by 19 percent year-on-year to 1,269, corresponding to 243,100 square meters of surface area (down 13 percent) and to 1,065,500 cubic meters of volume (down 6.5 percent).

Construction of residential buildings drops further

The construction of new residential buildings across the country is expected to post a significant decline for one more year at the end of December, as in the first seven months only 5,637 new houses and apartment blocks were completed against 7,009 in the same period in 2013, according to data released on Tuesday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Greek retail sales by volume rose 2.2 percent in September compared to the same month last year, after a downwardly revised 7.3 percent increase in August, the countrys statistics service ELSTAT said on Friday.
Sales volumes rose for the fourth month in a row, pointing to a boost in consumer spending in the third quarter as the economy recovers from a protracted slump.
