Social policies must be upgraded to address rising inequality in Turkey: World Bank

Labor, taxation and social welfare policies in countries around Europe and Central Asia must be brought into the 21st century to tackle rising inequality between groups and help workers face increased uncertainty, a new World Bank study has said.

Bulgaria's Q4 Household Spending Rises 13%

The average expenditure per household in Bulgaria rose 13.2% year-on-year to BGN 1,368 ($872.5/699.4 euro) in the fourth quarter of 2017, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Thursday.

Expenditure on food had a share of 31% of total household spending during the October-December period, while expenditure on housing constituted 18.8% of the total, NSI said in a statement.

The total income average per member during the second quarter of 2017 is 1 355 BGN and increases by 9.4% compared to the same quarter of 2016. The highest relative share of income within the total income is this from wages and salaries (56.7%). The relative share of income from pensions is 26.3%, from self-employment - 6.8% and from social benefits - 3.4%.
