Kipkorir decides to focus on Athens Marathon, targeting the podium

Kenya's champion Brimin Kipkorir has withdrawn from Sunday's Nairobi International Marathon and will instead compete at the more lucrative Athens Marathon on November 11.

Kipkorir, who clocked a time of 2:12.39 in winning last year's event, said he has been forced to choose between the two races and believes he has more to prove in Greece.

Hilton to be Athens Marathon's official hotel

Hilton Athens is the official hotel of the Athens Authentic Marathon on November 11, and has announced it will open its Galaxy Bar & Restaurant from 9 a.m. for anyone wishing to have brunch with a bird's-eye view of the race that ends in central Athens.

It is also offering race participants special 30 percent discounts at its Hiltonia Spa from November 10 to 12.

Inquiry opened into possible mismanagement of donations for fire victims

The head of the Athens prosecutor's office, Ilias Zagoraios, on Tuesday ordered a preliminary investigation into accusations of mismanagement by the Municipality of Marathon of donations for victims of the blaze that hit the Mati holiday resort east of the capital in July.

Kenyan Marathon Master Kipchoge Smashes World Record

Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge set a new marathon world record in Berlin on Sunday, smashing the previous best as he clocked 2hr 1min 39sec.

The 33-year-old Olympic champion, aided by a string of pacemakers through to 25km of the 42.195km race, took 1min 18sec off the previous best set four years ago by Dennis Kimetto.
