Atena: “112” warning for Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the North Aegean islands

A warning message from “112” was sent shortly after 5 p.m. to residents of Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thassos, Samothrace, Lemnos and Agios Efstratios for dangerous weather phenomena expected to “strike” from early Tuesday evening.

Greece to tax cruise ship arrivals to protect popular islands from overtourism

Greece plans to impose a 20-euro levy on cruise ship visitors to the islands of Santorini and Mykonos during the peak summer season, in a bid to avert overtourism, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday.

Greece relies heavily on tourism, the main driver of the country's economy which is still recovering from a decade-long crisis that wiped out a fourth of its output.

Suspects in Mykonos rape case released

The three men who were accused of raping a 23-year-old tourist on the Cycladic island of Mykonos were released on Tuesday without restrictive conditions.

The decision for their release was reportedly taken after the analysis of evidence showed that the sexual intercourse occurred with the consent of the plaintiff, according to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).
