The blight of the Cyclades

The discussion has been ongoing for some time now. It started right after the first Covid lockdown was lifted, in reaction to the leap in the price of ferry and airline tickets, as well as in the cost of accommodation, which together suddenly pushed a significant section of the Greek population onto the sidelines - meaning they could no longer afford a decent holiday on a Greek island.

These are the two cheapest islands in the Cyclades for buying a house

Andros is currently the cheapest island in the Cyclades to buy a house, with Tinos following, considering that the lowest prices start from 2,000 to 2,500 euros per square meter.

On the other hand, we have the prestigious island of Mykonos, where property prices start at 5,500 euros per square metre and can go up to an average of 12,000 euros per square metre.

Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is a place of many faces and boundless charm. There's the Naxos of ancient monuments, where passionate history enthusiasts climb rocks to reach the Cave of Zeus; the Naxos of sandy beaches, where French retirees sunbathe naked as early as May; and the Naxos of orchards and pastures, where farmers tirelessly tend to their land and livestock.

Turkey ramps up tensions in the Aegean

This week saw tensions between Greece and Turkey reach levels we have not seen since 2022 in the Aegean as Turkey sent its warships into an area south of the Greek islands of Kassos and Karpathos. Expert Constantinos Filis joins Thanos Davelis to look into whether we are seeing a gradual return of tensions in the Aegean after more than a year of calm.

A rewarding weekend on Tzia

I always had a ready excuse for not visiting the island of Kea, also known as Tzia, which lies a convenient one-hour ferry ride away from the coast of Lavrio in southeastern Attica: "It's so close; we'll go another time." Well, the years went by and that "other time" only came one weekend earlier this summer.

Excavations unearth third major gate of ancient Ephesus city

The find marks a major milestone in the excavation efforts within the ancient site, which lies within the borders of the western city of İzmir.

For many young Greeks, summer is all work for a bit of play

Yannis Rossopoulos boards the last ship leaving Piraeus' Gate E8 for the islands of the Saronic Gulf on the evening of July 6. His destination is Ermioni, a small port town on the Argolida peninsula, where he will spend the entire summer season working as a cook in a five-star hotel. He rolls a cigarette on the small deck, before the ship sets sail.
