Turkey to be caught in the chronic disease storm in 20 years, says geneticist

Turkey will be caught in a "chronic disease storm" over the next 20 years, Professor Gökhan Hotam??l?gil, a world renowned geneticist, has warned.

Professor Hotam??l?gil said one third of the Turkish population is overweight, one third is clinically overweight and three percent is morbidly obese, adding problems to the country's future.

'Obese cat' in Turkey loses 5.5 kg in 4 months

A fat cat in western Turkey has shed more than five kilograms in four months after its owner hospitalized the pet.

Named "Ta? Kafa" (Stone Head), referring to a Turkish expression for a dumb person, the five-year-old cat was recently taken to the animal treatment center of Nilüfer district in the Bursa province by its owner.

The EU will allocate a total of 150 million euros to 25 member states for the fruit in schools program in the school year 2015-16. The program was begun in 2009 to reverse the declining trend in fruit and vegetable consumption and apparently should be giving school students a fruit and veggie per day at school.

Food poisoning hits Florina pupils on Crete trip

A group of 22 pupils from the northern Greek city of Florina were being treated for food poisoning in a hospital in Crete over the weekend.

The pupils, who were on a 5-day school trip, were returning to Iraklio after spending the day in the western part of the island on Sunday, when a number of them displayed symptoms of gastroenteritis.
