The dismissal of Stefanos Kasselakis from the position of SYRIZA president by an enhanced majority of the Central Committee (163 yes and 123 no and null/blank votes) leads the main opposition party into new internal elections within a year. Rapid developments within SYRIZA, as the motion of no confidence against Stefanos Kasselakis, submitted by 87 members and supported by Pavlos Polakis, comfortably passed in the Central Committee vote.

According to reports, the motion passed with 163 votes in favor, 120 against, and 3 invalid or blank votes.

A censure motion against SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis was approved on Sunday by the 300-member central committee of the main opposition party.

A total of 163 voted in favor of the censure motion, 120 voted against, and there were three invalid or blank votes. The motion required 148 votes to pass.

With the government on the defensive and looking for initiatives that will bring drifting voters back, the two biggest opposition parties are distracted by internal turmoil.

The situation appears to be more serious in the main opposition party, SYRIZA, whose central committee meets Saturday.

SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis, speaking at the party's central committee on Saturday, said the party must "change or sink," citing the need for reform amid internal dissent.
