The National Meteorological Service Meteo has issued a warning for ongoing rain and thunderstorms across the nation on Friday.

May 9 brings a mixed bag of atmospheric phenomena, with isolated rain showers dominating the western regions and the looming possibility of thunderstorms in the southwest. Residents are advised to brace themselves for a day of weather-related surprises.

Residents planning to put a sparkle on their cars ahead of the weekend may as well put away the bucket and sponge, as a combination of rain and dust from the Sahara will be casting a muddy pall over Greece's sunny skies starting on Thursday afternoon.

Bulgaria is on high alert as the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issues a Yellow Alert for impending heavy rain and thunderstorms across Western, Central, and Southeastern regions on May 8.

Scattered showers, with occasional bursts of sunshine are expected across Greece until Sunday (Orthodox Easter), according to the forecast data released by the National Observatory of Athens on Friday.

Over the next 24 hours, much of the country will experience significant cloudiness, accompanied by widespread rain in Central and Eastern Bulgaria. Eastern regions may see particularly heavy rainfall. While precipitation from the north will taper off during the day, rain will persist in southern Bulgaria, with thunderstorms forecasted for southwestern regions.

According to the latest forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), Western Bulgaria is set to bask in sunshine today, while the eastern regions brace for clouds and rain.

During the night, expect mostly clear skies with scattered high clouds, bringing generally calm weather with temperatures ranging between 5°C and 10°C, around 5°C in Sofia.

Overnight, cloud cover will disperse and decrease to mostly clear skies across the western half of the country, while rain will persist in the eastern regions. A gentle to moderate breeze will blow from the west-southwest.
