One death and serious problems in western Greece were left behind by the “Cassandra” that hit the country in the past 48 hours. However, the effects are receding with the bad weather moving further east and weakening.

In a post, EMF director Thodoros Kolydas said:

Overnight and into tomorrow, widespread precipitation is expected, with more intense thunderstorms in Western and Central Bulgaria. Northwestern regions will see a shift in wind direction from the west-northwest, bringing cooler temperatures of around 19° to 20°.

A storm system named Cassandra is expected to affect western Greece on Friday, bringing clouds, rain, and isolated thunderstorms, according to a bulletin from the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

The severe weather is expected to ease by nighttime.

The weather pattern is set to change again as the storm system Cassandra, forming in the central Mediterranean, is expected to impact Greece from Friday afternoon. This was reported by Thodoris Kolydas, director of the National Meteorological Service (EMY), on social media.

The first day of the week will remain cold and windy, following a sharp drop in temperatures yesterday. Morning temperatures are expected to range between 7 and 12 degrees, with Sofia seeing around 8 degrees. Some rain is anticipated in the eastern half of the country, although it is expected to taper off by evening.

Significant rainfall is anticipated in Bulgaria on the final days of September, with snowfall expected in the higher mountain regions. This forecast was provided by Anastasia Stoycheva from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology during an interview on BNT.

The weather will see increased changes in the coming days, with temperatures reaching up to 31 degrees Celsius on Saturday, followed by a sharp drop. EMF Director Thodoris Kolydas predicts a 6 to 7 degrees Celsius decrease after the weekend peak.

The weather change will begin at noon on Sunday, with next week starting with showers and thunderstorms in several areas.

We will have a gradual rise in temperature until the end of the week, specifically until 28/9 with the mercury reaching even 34 degrees Celsius and weather reminiscent of summer again.

Good weather is expected to continue on Sunday, with mild temperatures and occasional local showers.

Autumnal weather will remain setting the scene today, with some rain and occasional thunderstorms in several parts of the country. By Sunday, however, rainfall will be significantly reduced and there will be much more sunshine. Northern winds will increase in the Aegean Sea and will reach up to 7 Beaufort in some places over the weekend.
