Iraqi Yazidis are afraid to return to their ancestral lands due to fears of a future genocide, Feyyan Dahil, who has worked to bring attention to the plight of besieged members of her community, has said.
      

Turkey has become a refuge - and a huge field hospital - for increasing numbers of people fleeing their homelands, while continuing to send humanitarian aid to a number of conflict zones in the region.

Turkey’s disaster agency will set up a tent city in Zakho, northern Iraq, to host around 16,000 Yazidi people who fled the Sinjar region amid ongoing attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Several shops in Basmane, an Ä°zmir neighborhood where illegal refugees from Iraq, Somalia and Syria reside, have included life vests and similar equipment into their inventory, as they attempt to reach Greece.

Locals say the people buying the life vests or similar equipment are refugees who mainly live in Basmane and aim to reach Europe through Greece.

Islam does not approve of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL) treatment of beleaguered Yazidi refugees in Iraq, Turkey’s top Muslim religious figure has said.

Religious Affairs Directorate head Mehmet Görmez said those who kill people due to their religion, force them to leave their homes and create violence cannot be approved by Islam.

President Barack Obama ordered U.S. warplanes back into the skies over Iraq on Aug. 8 to drop food to refugees and, if necessary, launch air strikes to halt what he said was a potential "genocide."  

At least 25,000 Iraqi nationals who have fled from jihadist violence in their homeland are seeking refuge in Turkey, with the number of figures sharply increasing since July as hundreds of thousands of Iraqis suffer at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
