Solar investment outstrips all other power forms: IEA

More money is pouring into solar power than all other electricity sources combined, with investments set to reach half a trillion dollars this year, the world's top energy research body said Thursday.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecast in a report that global investment in clean energy this year will hit $2 trillion, twice the amount going to fossil fuels.

Country’s largest solar plant now operational

Slovenia's largest solar power plant has been launched. Built for €5.5 million adjacent to the Brežice hydropower plant, it has a peak power of 6 MW, enough to meet the electricity needs of about 1,800 households.

What makes it special alongside its size is that it is connected directly to the 110 kilovolt transmission network and forms a hybrid system with the hydropower plant.

Solar power installed capacity tops 10,000 MW

Türkiye's installed solar power capacity has exceeded 10,000 MW, according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.

"This happened thanks to investments made in solar power in the recent years. The pace of investments suggest that installed capacity will rise further in the upcoming period," he said, speaking at an event in the province of Eskişehir.

Solar investment outshines oil: IEA

Investment in solar power is expected to overtake oil for the first time this year as clean energy spending outpaces that for fossil fuels, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a report yesterday.

While that is a welcome development, warned the IEA that investment in fossil fuels is rising when it should be falling fast to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
