The two major Greek workers’ unions, the General Confederation of Workers (GSEE) and the state Executive Civil Servant’s Associations (ADEDY), have declared a 48 hour nationwide general strike for May 6 and 7, protesting against the unexpected introduction to Greek parliament of the new social security bill.

Greece's public sector umbrella union ADEDY on Thursday called a 48-hour strike for Friday and Saturday, to protest the government's social security reform plans, following an announcement that the legislation was expected to be debated in Parliament on Saturday before being put to the vote late on Sunday.

Print, electronic media in Greece hold 48-hour strike over pension reforms

Print media in Greece will be on strike on Thursday and Friday in a protest over pension reforms.

The 48-hour strike was called by the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESY). The strike will affect electronic media and the semi-state ANA-MPA news agency as well.

The strike will end at 6 a.m. on Saturday, when broadcast media will begin their 48-hour strike.

24-hour national strike on Thursday called by Public Servants union (ADEDY)

All doctors’ and medical staff associations have announced they would participate in the 24 hour national strike called by the national Civil Servants’ Association (ADEDY) for Thursday. The Greek unions are protesting against the proposed changes in the social security system the Greek government is putting forward to close a review by its creditors.

More than 50,000 people protest against govt’s measures in today’s protest rallies

On Thursday the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) have declared a general strike where almost all labour unions participate.

The main protest rally started at 11:00 am on Klafthmonos Square, while PAME (labour union affiliated to Communist Party) had decided to hold its own rally which started at 10:30 in Omonia.

Labour unions escalate protest actions with nationwide strike on Thursday

The the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) will hold a strike on February 4 to protest against the government’s planned social security reforms.

Public transport is also disrupted on Tuesday, February 2, as there are no services on the Athens metro, tram, electric railway (ISAP) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
