Turkish UAV base approved

Turkish-Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar announced on Thursday he is transferring control of the Gecitkale air base in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus to the Turkish Army to serve as a deployment hub for unmanned aircraft.

In a televised interview with the 24TV network, Tatar said the "parliament" of the entity, which is only recognized by Ankara, approved the move.

NATO post draws Greek ire

Diplomatic sources say Greece's representation to NATO has sent a protest letter to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, following the congratulatory message to Turkey by NATO's Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), based in Izmir, on the occasion of Turkey's "Victory Day," the anniversary of the defeat of the Greek forces in Asia Minor in 1922. It is also known as Turkish Armed Forces Day.
