In emotional return to Greece, Antetokounmpo promises to help youth

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greece's homegrown NBA All-Star, made an emotional return to the city he grew up in and promised to help children in Greece and Africa make it in life.

With his brother Thanasis, who plays for the Spanish club MoraBanc Andorra, the "Antetokounmbros" have begun offering a college scholarship in Athens for children of migrants born in Greece.

Known for their playful blend of new-wave and symphonic pop, Xaxakes, the band headed by singer-songwriter Yiannis Nastas since 1995, will perform at Gazarte's roof stage on Monday, June 12. The show starts at 10 p.m. and admission costs 7 euros.

Seven Artists | Athens | June 2-30

Seven talented artists express their reflections and emotions in experiential artworks that are going on display at the Chryssothemis Gallery in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri. The gallery was launched in spring of 1979 under the direction of Zoi Psarrou. Its name is taken from a poem by Giannis Ritsos.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was at the basketball match between Olympiakos and Aris at the Piraeus “Peace & Friendship” stadium for the basketball league and was swamped by fans asking him for autographs. After the Milwaukee Bucks were knocked out of NBA finals, the Greek Freak is in Greece and decided to visit the local basketball league with his girlfriend Mariah and younger brother Kostas.
