Zvornik police station shooting

Police and security agencies increased security levels after the attack on a police station in the eastern Bosnian town of Zvornik on Monday evening which left one policeman dead and two injured.

The attacker, who was identified as Nerdin Ibric, a Bosniak born in 1991, was also killed in the shootout with police officers.

ZVORNIK - One police officer was killed and two others were wounded late Monday around 7 p.m. when a gunman broke into a police station in Zvornik, a town in Republika Srpska near the Serbian border, Spokesman of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry Milan Salamadija said.

The attacker shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) was shot dead during the attack, Salamadija said.

Bosnian police arrested two Islamic militants, suspected to be travelling to Syria, at Sarajevo airport on Tuesday evening as they were boarding the flight to Istanbul.

Security levels around French embassy and other diplomatic premises in Sarajevo have been raised to a higher level following the recent attack in Paris, Bosnian officials said on Thursday, declining to elaborate on the details of ongoing operations.
