Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, a prominent figure in the opposition's call for change after a recent election defeat, has suggested potential collaborations with former opposition leaders during a meeting held to discuss the future of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).

A bank commercial on Turkish television featuring the imitation of Zeki Müren, an iconic Turkish singer touted as the country's "sun of art," has stirred a vicious debate on social media involving famous figures.

The debate was ignited last week by a remark made by Barış Yarkadaş, a former lawmaker of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and also a columnist.

Award-winning journalist Şık was detained over several tweets and his articles for daily Cumhuriyet, Anadolu Agency reported. 

A deputy from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has asked in a parliamentary question why the canteen manager of the daily Cumhuriyet was arrested after he allegedly said he would not serve tea to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan if he came to the newspaper's offices. 

Journalist Hüsnü Mahalli, who was arrested on Dec. 15 for allegedly insulting state officials, was transferred to a general hospital in Istanbul on Dec. 21 after falling ill in prison.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul deputy Barış Yarkadaş read out a message from daily Cumhuriyet's imprisoned editor-in-chief, Murat Sabuncu, in parliament's general assembly on Dec. 6. 

Turkey's Press Advertisement Institution, the authority for distributing official ads to newspapers, has announced that it will not direct any business to publications whose owners, partners or executives face terrorism charges, raising criticism from the opposition and a sector organization.
