Former co-chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, have been handed substantial prison sentences in the case stemming from events dating back to the 2014 protests that erupted into deadly clashes in eastern Türkiye.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) lawmaker Mithat Sancar was elected as the new co-chair of the party at a congress on Feb. 23.

Sancar, who has been serving as an MP for the southeastern province of Mardin since 2015, replaced Sezai Temelli at the HDP's fourth annual general congress.

The Kurdish-question focused People's Democratic Party (HDP) held a grand meeting in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır titled "Justice, Conscience and Democracy" in protest of the current state of democracy in Turkey and arrests of its lawmakers.

Imprisoned former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-leader Figen Yüksekdağ, currently in prison on terror-related charges, is facing a sentence of 10 years in jail over "terrorist propaganda" and "defaming the Turkish Republic." 

An Istanbul prosecutor has launched an investigation against Sezgin Tanrıkulu, a prominent lawmaker from the ranks of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), over his claims that civilians had been killed by armed drones as part of the anti-terror fight in Turkey's southeastern region.

The jailed co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş, and party deputy Abdullah Zeydan have submitted fresh petitions to the Parliament Speaker's Office and the Justice Ministry, demanding an end to handcuffing during their transfers to courts and hospitals. 

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have begun preparations for snap elections, jailed HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has claimed. 

The opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has started its "conscience and justice watch" in Istanbul's Kadıköy district with the participation of several lawmakers. 

The Kurdish issue-focused HDP started its watch on Aug. 1 in Kadıköy's Yoğurtçu Park after spending a week in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. 

Turkey's opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is slated to stage "justice watches" in several provinces across the country until the anniversary of its lawmakers' arrests, starting from July 25.
