Mount Olympus: A journey through Greece’s most impressive hiking route

The tallest mountain in Greece, known in Greek mythology as the home of the twelve gods, offers countless hiking trails and routes. The legends and myths surrounding it make Olympus one of the most alluring destinations. Ten years ago, most hikers you’d see on Olympus were foreign tourists. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, hiking has seen an unprecedented rise in Greece.

Rescue operation underway for hiker in distress on Mount Olympus

A rescue operation is underway by members of the Hellenic Rescue Team (HRT) to assist a hiker in danger on Mount Olympus.

The rescue team received an emergency radio call on Sunday regarding the hiker near the Kastana area. Volunteers stationed on the mountain are on their way to the scene. The fire department in Litochoro has also been notified and is involved in the operation.

Wildfire breaks out in Macedonia

A wildfire broke out near a residential area in Litochoro, Macedonia.

The fire service has dispatched 18 firefighters with seven vehicles, three aircraft, and one helicopter to the scene.

A 112 alert message was sent to residents of Plaka, urging them to evacuate towards Katerini and Leptokarya.

Pieria: 44-year-old woman killed by falling sycamore tree branch

A 44-year-old woman was fatally injured when a sycamore tree branch fell on her while she was sitting in the outdoor area of a health food store in Litochoro, Pieria.

According to the National Police, the incident occurred yesterday at around 10 PM.

The woman was taken to the local Health Center, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.

Four elderly people die in separate sea incidents

Four elderly people have died in separate swimming incidents across the country, the coast guard reported.

In the northern Aegean island of Thassos, an 86-year-old man was found unconscious on Platanas Beach and later pronounced dead at a nearby health center.

A 71-year-old man was found in Agkona, Oropos, East Attica, and declared dead at Skala Oropos Clinic.
