Opening of POTAP to the USA through hosting of American journalist

In order to promote and introduce the comparative advantages of Pieria to the American public, the Pieria Organization of Tourism Development and Promotion (P.O.T.A.P.) hosted and informed American journalist Ms. Chanin Victor, editor of “TravelAge West.” This was done in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia and the Tourism Organizations of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki. Ms. Victor was guided through the natural beauties of the area, including the mountainous, semi-mountainous, and flat regions, the coastal front with its long shoreline, numerous hotel units, pilgrimage, archaeological and historical sites, local traditions, customs of the inhabitants, and the productive activities of the citizens of Pieria.

The visit took place from June 24th to 26th. She was informed about the actions of the Pieria Organization of Tourism Development and Promotion, aimed at highlighting all forms of tourism at the county level. She showed particular interest in the information provided and frequently expressed her admiration, stating that she was enchanted by what she saw in Pieria.

During her visit, meetings were held with the Deputy Regional Governor of Pieria, Ms. Sofia Mavridou, members of the P.O.T.A.P. board, Ms. Afroditi Bellou and Mr. Stelios Ouzas, and the Director of the Organization, Mr. Vasilis Dimou. The Deputy Regional Governor of Pieria, Ms. Sofia Mavridou, welcomed Ms. Victor and referred to the comparative advantages of the area: “Pieria, with its archaeological and religious monuments, beautiful natural environment, opportunities for various outdoor activities, unique and special local flavors, covers a wide range of interests. Our constant aim is to establish Pieria as a four-season destination, develop alternative forms of tourism, and connect them with the primary sector and our rich cultural heritage.”

During her stay in Pieria, Ms. Victor visited the archaeological park of Dion, where she was guided through the long history of the place. She also visited a local winery, an agritourism unit, and the permanent paleontological exhibition in Neokaisareia. Additionally, she had the chance to explore the mythical Mount Olympus through a special tour at the National Park Information Center, visit the traditional settlement of Palaios Panteleimonas, and take a short boat cruise along the coast of Pieria. She left the area with the best impressions of the warm hospitality, natural beauty, and the unique combination of mountain and sea offered by Pieria.
