Missing teenage shepherd found dead in river; farmer arrested for employing a minor

A 16-year-old boy who had been reported missing was found dead on Monday night in the Pramoritsa River in Kozani, northern Greece.

The unnamed teenager was working as a shepherd for a 50-year-old local livestock farmer when a fellow-shepherd, aged 43, reported that he had gone missing while on the job earlier in the day.

Police have arrested the 50-year-old farmer for illegally hiring a minor. He also faces charges over employing undocumented migrants, as the teenager and the 43-year-old are Albanian nationals who had entered the country illegally.

The 43-year-old has also been taken into custody over visa law violations.

An investigation into the boy's death is under way, though sources suggested that authorities are treating it as an accident.
