All bar heads going to Diyarbak?r after Elçi's killing

Upon the killing of the head of Diyarbak?r Bar Association Tahir Elçi, head of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) Metin Feyzio?lu called all heads of bar associations in Turkey to go to Diyarbak?r.

Feyzio?lu himself also departed for Diyarbak?r with the executive board of TBB. He said, "This mean attack was not against our brother Tahir but against the entire Turkey."

Feyzio?lu also said that they did not know who was behind the attack but the target was Turkey. "The target is our unity, our fraternity. For this reason we should all stand together as one against this attack. For this reason, me and my friends in the executive board of TTB are immediately departing for Diyarbak?r."

"We have called on all of our heads of bar associations. They will also come," he said.

Curfew was imposed in the Diyarbak?r town of Sur, where the attack took place. 

President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an confirmed in a speech in Bal?kesir that both were killed. 

"This incident shows how righteous is Turkey in its determination in struggle against terrorism," Erdo?an said, vowing to continue the struggle until the end. 

Three policemen were wounded, repots said, as circumstances remained unclear.

Elçi and accompanying lawyers made a press meeting on the damage of the earlier clashes in Sur before the gun shots were heard.

Do?an News Agency quoted eye witnesses a saying that one bearded man fired at Elçi, but it is still uncertain whether the bar chief was targeted.

Anadolu Agency said the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was responsible for the attack.

Anadolu Agency reporter Aziz Aslan was also wounded.
