Murderer arrested after 6 years on the run

A 30-year-old man who had been on the run since a court convicted him of murder and illegal gun possession in 2011 was arrested in the central Greek town of Larissa Wednesday. The man was convicted, along with a 49-year-old Albanian man who was arrested in May of 2011, of killing a 45-year-old Pakistani national and his 20-year-old son during a brawl in the district of Ano Liosia in northern Athens. They also injured five other Pakistanis.

The brawl, which occurred outside a Roma camp opposite the local landfill, broke out over garbage sorting rights. The 30-year-old was remanded in custody yesterday after appearing before a prosecutor.
