Slovenia’s favourite out of the French Open
Paris – Slovenia’s best tennis player, Tamara Zidanšek, is out of the competition at the French Open after being knocked out by Jessica Pegula of the US in the third round of the singles competition and then going on to be eliminated in the doubles as well.
Last year’s semifinalist at Roland Garros, Zidanšek lost to the 11th seed in two sets 6:1 and 7:6 after just 27 minutes of play on Saturday.
Paired with Kaja Juvan, Zidanšek was then also eliminated in the doubles competition. They lost to the 10th seeded Czech-Indian pair Sania Mirza and Lucie Hradecka 6:3 and 6:4 in the second round.
In the men’s singles, Aljaž Bedene had been knocked out by Serbian superstar Novak Đoković in the third round on Friday, losing 6:3, 6:3 and 6:2.
Meanwhile, Slovenia’s veteran player Andreja Klepač was successful in the mixed doubles, making it to the round of 16 with her Indian partner Rohan Bopanna after beating the US-British pair Asia Muhammad and Lloyd Glasspool 6:1 and 6:4 in 51 minutes on Saturday.
The 5th-seeded Slovenian-Indian pair will now face off the Czech-Ecuadorian counterparts Lucie Hradecka and Gonzalo Escobar.
