EU asked for more time as steel plant talks continue
BELGRADE -- EU is not yet considering the request of the government of Serbia to be granted additional time to complete negotiations with the U.S. company Esmark.
The negotiations concern the sale of the Zelezara steel plant in the town of Smederevo.
Savings clients and banks should pay deposit insurance
BELGRADE - Serbia's Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic has said that all banks and their clients with savings accounts will have to put some of their money into the Deposit Insurance Fund in the future, adding that the fund will mostly have independent members of the management board.

Ministers sign anti-crime agreement
BELGRADE - Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic signed on Friday an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Finance, Customs Administration and the Interior Ministry (MUP) of Serbia, aimed to promote cooperation between these institutions in the fight against corruption and crime.

IMF to consider arrangement with Serbia on Feb. 23
BELGRADE - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Board of Directors is due to hold a meeting on February 23, during which it will decide whether to approve an arrangement with Serbia, Tanjug learned at the IMF Office in Belgrade.
Serbia and the IMF reached an agreement on November 20 to sign a three-year precautionary arrangement worth around EUR 1 billion.

BELGRADE -- Esmark Europe B.V. has been officially notified that it was chosen as the strategic partner in the privatization of the steel mill Zelezara Smederevo.
Esmark's CEO has said that the company's team will focus on revitalziing the Serbian steel maker once the transaction is completed.
