"Not too late for Jeremic and Jankovic to agree"
Opposition SDS President Boris Tadic has called on Sasa Jankovic and Vuk Jeremic to reach agreement so that only one of them runs for president.
Tadic thinks that after the announced candidacy of Tomislav Nikolic, now is the chance to for the opposition to unite and to have a joint candidate.

Serbia Ombudsman Resigns to Run for President
While most political parties in Serbia, including the ruling Progressives, have yet to name their candidates for April's presidential elections, Sasa Jankovic officially launched his presidential campaign on Tuesday.
"In the name of the citizens, I want to be the president of Serbia as the protector of all of us," Jankovic said.

Ombudsman resigns, announces presidential bid
Citizens' Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic on Tuesday resigned and announced he will be a candidate in this year's presidential elections in Serbia.
Jankovic submitted his resignation to the Serbian National Assembly.

Serbia's ex-FM Running for President
Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said he will run in the presidential election this spring.
On his website, he has posted a message arguing he is taking the step "for Serbia", vowing to repair the system together with his compatriots and create a developed country where "one does not whisper but speaks freely."

The presidency of the Democratic Party (DS) has decided to support the presidential bid of Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic.
According to DS leader Dragan Sutanovac, Jankovic "personifies those values that the DS stands for."
Vucic could win presidential elections in first round
BELGRADE - If he runs for president, Aleksandar Vucic could win the presidential elections in the first round already, while Tomislav Nikolic could have major problems in a run-off vote, shows a recent survey conducted by the Politika daily and the Faktor Plus opinion poll company.
"Opposition must unite to defeat Vucic's candidate"
SDS leader Boris Tadic thinks the opposition must unite if they wish to defeat "the candidate of SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic" in the presidential elections.
"Both Sasa Jankovic and Vuk Jeremic have the potential to win, but only if one of them is a joint candidate while the other backs him," the former Serbian president told the newspaper Blic.

BELGRADE - Serbia's Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic on Monday announced he would enter his candidacy for president when the presidential elections are called.
He said he would be the citizens' candidate.

Putin Expresses Interest in Serbia Presidential Race
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has written to President Tomislav Nikolic of Serbia saying that the Kremlin will follow the 2017 Serbian presidential election "with full attention".
In the letter handed to Nikolic by Russian ambassador to Belgrade Aleksandar Chepurin, Putin confirmed Russia's wish to continue a strategic partnership.
