Serbia Ombudsman Resigns to Run for President

While most political parties in Serbia, including the ruling Progressives, have yet to name their candidates for April's presidential elections, Sasa Jankovic officially launched his presidential campaign on Tuesday.

"In the name of the citizens, I want to be the president of Serbia as the protector of all of us," Jankovic said.

Serbia's ex-FM Running for President

Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said he will run in the presidential election this spring.

On his website, he has posted a message arguing he is taking the step "for Serbia", vowing to repair the system together with his compatriots and create a developed country where "one does not whisper but speaks freely."

"Opposition must unite to defeat Vucic's candidate"

SDS leader Boris Tadic thinks the opposition must unite if they wish to defeat "the candidate of SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic" in the presidential elections.

"Both Sasa Jankovic and Vuk Jeremic have the potential to win, but only if one of them is a joint candidate while the other backs him," the former Serbian president told the newspaper Blic.
