Parents of dead university student challenge coroner's findings

The parents of a 21-year-old student who was found dead on the southeast Aegean island of Kalymnos last month filed a homicide suit on Monday at Hellenic Police headquarters in Athens against persons unknown.

The parents have called into question the conclusions of the coroner who conducted the autopsy on Nikos Hatzipavlou's battered body and ruled his death an accident.

A Turkish police officer surrended to the Greek immigration police in Athens asking for political asylum.

The 35-year-old officer was serving in the Turkish police’s surveillance unit making his case quite interesting for the Greek authorities.

Police union banned from holding meeting in Exarchia

Citizens' Protection Minister Nikos Toskas on Wednesday said authorities had banned the union representing Greek police officers, known by its acronym POASY, from holding a meeting planned for Thursday evening in central Exarchia Square, a traditional stronghold for anarchists where police traditionally tread lightly.
