Authorities identify suspect detained for Eaton murder
Police yesterday identified a 27-year-old man who is charged with the murder of 59-year-old US biologist Suzanne Eaton on Crete earlier this month.
The man, who was identified as Ioannis Paraskakis, is said to have admitted to raping Eaton on July 2 after hitting her twice with his car and then disposing of her in a former German WWII bunker near the port of Hania.
Police chief resigns as new minister slams partisanship
Citizens' Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis confirmed the resignation of Greek Police (ELAS) chief Aristides Andrikopoulos Wednesday, stressing that appointments in the force will be based purely on merit.
Andrikopoulos had sparked controversy after he was seen at a pre-election rally organized by leftist SYRIZA in late May.

Prosecutors probing fire service chief over alleged conflict of interest
Prosecutors in Athens and the Hellenic Police's (ELAS) Internal Affairs department are investigating allegations that the current head of the country's fire service, Vasilis Mattheopoulos, violated public sector laws on conflict of interest by presiding over an annual evaluation of fellow officers in the aftermath of the deadly blaze in eastern Attica last year, Kathimerini has learned.
Body found in river in central Greece
Greek police have found a body in the river Pinios, at the regional unit of Thessaly, a local news website reported on Monday afternoon.
Officers and firemen have cordoned off the area and are expected to use a boat to pull the body out of the water, according to larissanet.gr.

Four arrested in child porn crackdown
Officers of the Greek Police's cyber crime squad have arrested four Greek men as part of an operation code-named "Uncover" aimed at cracking down on child pornography, it emerged on Saturday.
The arrests followed several months of investigation and came after raids on four properties in Athens and one in the Peloponnese earlier this month.

Faulty radios impair security
Police radios used by units guarding sensitive locations in Athens, such as the US Embassy, the Athens Appeals Court and the residence of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Maximos Mansion, are faulty or don't work at all, and this situation is raising security concerns, according to senior Greek Police (ELAS) officials who spoke to Kathimerini.
