Authorities identify suspect detained for Eaton murder

Police yesterday identified a 27-year-old man who is charged with the murder of 59-year-old US biologist Suzanne Eaton on Crete earlier this month.

The man, who was identified as Ioannis Paraskakis, is said to have admitted to raping Eaton on July 2 after hitting her twice with his car and then disposing of her in a former German WWII bunker near the port of Hania.

Police chief resigns as new minister slams partisanship

Citizens' Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis confirmed the resignation of Greek Police (ELAS) chief Aristides Andrikopoulos Wednesday, stressing that appointments in the force will be based purely on merit.

Four arrested in child porn crackdown

Officers of the Greek Police's cyber crime squad have arrested four Greek men as part of an operation code-named "Uncover" aimed at cracking down on child pornography, it emerged on Saturday.
The arrests followed several months of investigation and came after raids on four properties in Athens and one in the Peloponnese earlier this month.
