Proastiakos

A suburban railway (Proastiakos) train bound for Eleftherios Venizelos airport broke down on Monday afternoon between Doukisis Plakentias and Pallini stations. 

The train broke down shortly before 2.p.m. and remained immobilized for one and a half hours, during which passengers were stuck inside without air-conditioning, with some ending up missing their flights. 

A driver working for a private bus company that shuttles people to and from work in the Aspropyrgos industrial zone, west of the capital, was released from police custody after being accused of raping a passenger, it emerged on Tuesday.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Staikouras emphasized the importance of a project to build a new branch of the Proastiakos suburban railway in West Attica, from Ano Liosia to Megara, in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

The police on Thursday closed the Athens-bound lanes of the new Athens-Patras national highway to traffic at the 161st kilometre, in the Elaionas region, due to problems caused by the heavy rain in the area.

The old Athens-Patras national road has also been closed in both directions in the same area, while traffic has been diverted due to the bad weather at Metohi, Achaia.

Greece's Development Plan 2030 includes 188 projects worth 27.6 billion euros, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras said at the FinForum 2023 conference in Athens on Tuesday.

A fire broke out Monday, engulfing dry grass in close proximity to the train tracks of the Proastiakos suburban railway in Zevgolatio, near Corinth.

As a precautionary measure, the train service between Piraeus and Kiato has been temporarily suspended, following the instructions of the Fire Department.

The Proastiakos suburban railway in the western port city of Patra will not be operating on Monday and Tuesday, Hellenic Train has announced.

Commuters and travelers who would normally be using the train on the Agios Andreas-Patra-Rio route will be accommodated on buses, the announcement said.

The railway is being temporarily closed down for repairs and maintenance.

A 16-year-old is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after being hit by a train in central Athens late on Friday.

The incident occurred on the Proastiakos (suburban) line between Rouf and Tavros stations, at the intersection with Mithymnis Street.

A 24-hour general strike called by Greece's private and public sector unions, in protest at rail safety deficiencies that led to the deaths of 57 people in the February 28 train crash at Tempe, is expected to shut down most services around the country on Thursday.

The International Space Station will be located above Athens at 18:18 in the afternoon
