Engine failure on suburban railway train disrupts services

An engine failure on a train serving the Athens suburban railway (Proastiakos) route on Monday was expected to result in cancellations and delays.

The problem occurred at around 9 a.m. on a train en route to Athens International Airport from Piraeus, leading to the train being stopped at Koropi. 

Trainose said that engineers were working on restoring services. 

Athens-Corinth highway reopens; Proastiakos running as usual

Police reopened the Athens-Corinth national highway on Tuesday morning, which had been closed to traffic due to a fire that broke out on Monday in nearby woodland that blanketed the area in thick smoke and ash.

Authorities also said that service has resumed as normal on the Proastiakos suburban railway and on KTEL Intercity buses running between the Peloponnese and the mainland.

Athens commuters set for major traffic disruptions

Buses and trolleys in Athens will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday as part of a general strike called by unions in opposition to "austerity, unemployment and overtaxation."

The action is expected to upset rail services across the country but also the metro's link to Athens International Airport and the Proastiakos suburban railway.

Railway employees to hold work stoppage on Thursday

Greek rail employees on Tuesday announced work stoppages on Thursday, protesting the government's plans to privatize railway carriage maintenance firm Rosco.

The Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers will stage a four-hour stoppage from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. that will affect all Trainose train services and the Proastiakos suburban rail.

Transport Strike Blocks Greece

A transport strike blocks Greece today. On the festive day, workers in Athens' public transport will protest, the Foreign Ministry said.
 
Trolleys will not run for 24 hours.
 
The Metro in the section of "Dukisas Plakentias" boulevard to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport will also not run, while Line 1 of the metro in the Greek capital will not work from 05:00 to 08:00.

Trolley bus, Proastiakos service to be affected next week by stoppages

Getting around Athens will be that much harder next week as trolley bus and Proastiakos suburban railway drivers have both announced stoppages.

On Wednesday, the capital will not have any trolley bus services from noon to 5 p.m. as workers attend a general assembly that had been postponed.

Proastiakos tickets become electronic on Monday

Commuters using the Greek capital's Proastiakos suburban railway will have to use electronic tickets starting on Monday, as the network run by Trianose implements a similar system to the metro and ISAP electric railway.

Travel passes will be on sale at all Proastiakos, as well as metro and ISAP stations, and can also be charged with fares for the urban transport network.
