Russia's Defense Ministry said it "continued to retaliate" for Ukraine's attack on buildings in Crimea, targeting targets in the Black Sea ports of Odessa and Nikolaev.
On the other hand, Washington strongly condemned the Russian attacks, pointing out that Moscow plans to target civilian ships as well.

The Russians threatened

Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's military intelligence service, announced that last night's explosion at the ammunition depot was an operation by Ukrainian special forces.
The explosion occurred at a Russian military base in Crimea.

Russian forces first launched several waves of attack drones at the southern part of Ukraine, and then fired six Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea at Odesa, the Southern Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced, as Unian reports.

Russian forces have downed 28 Ukrainian drones over Crimea overnight, Moscow's defence ministry and a local official said on Tuesday.

Seventeen drones sent by Ukraine's forces overnight were "destroyed" and another 11 were "suppressed" by electronic means, Russia's defence ministry said in a statement.

It said there were no casualties or damage.

President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed "brave" Ukraine on the 500th day of Russia's invasion on Saturday, as the war's toll mounted with eight deaths reported in Russian rocket fire.

Zelensky published on social media an undated video clip of a visit to Snake Island in the Black Sea -- a symbol of Ukraine's defiance against Russia.

The Ukrainian president announced on Twitter that he has information that Russian forces have placed devices similar to explosives on the roofs of the facilities at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
