Heatwaves to persist to month’s end

Greece will face not one but two heatwave episodes by the end of July, meteorologists warn. Temperatures are set to top 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in several regions Thursday. The Athens area will see 40C, while in the interior of the Central Greece and Thessaly regions, it will reach 43C. Temperatures are set to climb even higher from Friday to Sunday.

Weather in Bulgaria: Orange Code for Heat and Temperatures over 40 degrees

Orange code for high temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius has been announced for 9 provinces in Bulgaria. The warning is for Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Kardjali, Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Burgas. A yellow code is in effect for 13 provinces, including Varna and Dobrich.

Weather in Bulgaria: Dangerously Hot in the East, Thunderstorms in the West

The weather today will be mostly sunny. Around and after noon, cumulus-rain clouds will develop again over Western and Central Bulgaria and in many places there will be precipitation, thunderstorms and hail. The wind will be weak, in the eastern regions - moderate from the northeast, after noon in the Danube plain - from the northwest.

Sunny weather will prevail today. Around and after noon, mainly over the mountainous regions, cumulus and cumulus-rain clouds will develop and in isolated places there will be brief rain with thunder. A light wind will blow from the north. Maximum temperatures will be between 26°C and 31°C, in Sofia - around 26°C.
