Huge drug bust disbands largest racket in the Attica region (pics)

Police put an end to one of the largest drug rackets in the Attica region operating in a number of areas around Athens (Zefyri, Ano Liosia, Salamina, Pangrati, Kolonos, Neos Kosmos, Voula) as well as Chania, Crete.

A total of 20 people were arrested, including ten Greeks and ten foreigners from Albania and Syria. The case file involves 43 people including a police officer that acted as an informant warning the racketeers about police raids.

The mastermind of the ring is believed to be a 36-year-old Albanian inmate from the Central Penitentiary Center of West Macedonia.

The heist:

The 36-year-old controlled a number of operations:

– The first group was involved in the gathering of drugs for the Korydallos prison.

– The second operated in Turkey and was involved in the distribution.

– The third, co-orinated by a 33-year-old Albanian and 25-year-old Greek was involved in the distribution from the Netherlands, Turkey and Albania.

The turnover from the racketeers activities is estimated to be more than 3 mln euros.

During the operation, the police gathered 1.8 kilos of cocaine, 2 kilos of heroin, 7.8 kilos of unadulterated cannabis and equipment to adulterate drugs. Also found were a number of weapons, cash amounting to 33,615 euros, six passenger cars, a motorbike and a number of cell phones.
