Two killed in road accidents overnight in Thessaloniki and Crete

Police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Sunday were calling on witnesses with information on a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man.

The victim was mowed down by a car traveling along 26th Oktovriou Street, near the KTEL intercity bus depot, at around 1.30 a.m. on Sunday morning. He has been identified as a Bulgarian national but his name was not made public.

Police did not release any details regarding the vehicle that hit the pedestrian and are hoping that witnesses will come forward.

In a separate incident in Iraklio, Crete, a 23-year-old Albanian man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a wall at 4 a.m. in the municipality of Archanon.

Rescue workers said the victim was the driver of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact, resulting in fatal injuries.
