Breaking: Bush fire breaks out in Dafni area in Athens (photos)

A bush fire has broken out in the suburb of Dafni in Athens, Wednesday. 15 firefighters with five firefighting vehicles are attempting to extinguish the flames. The area where the fire broke out at 3.30pm is behind Agios Ioannis Metro Station, at the intersection of Vouliagmenis Avenue with Kasomoulis Street.

Attica's 500-mln-euro roadwork plans

Attica is bracing for work to start on road tunnel projects and other similar interventions currently planned for the next few years and budgeted at half a billion euros.

The aim is to improve quality of life and reduce traffic jams, while in some cases - such as at Elliniko - the projects are linked to major development and urban revamp plans.

Body of woman found on Glyfada pier

Police found the body of a woman at the 4th pier of Glyfada in the south of Attica. The woman appears to be between 50-55 years old, 165cm tall, and was wearing a long black t-shirt, a black skirt with short beze colour tights underneath and dark blue shoes. The body was taken to Athens Capodistrian University toxicology lab for a postmortem examination.

Bay of Faliro to be complete in 2019

The first phase of works to spruce up the Bay of Faliro will be completed in February 2019 at a cost of 73 million euros, according to the contract signed between the construction firm, Aktor, and the Attica regional authorities.

The project includes flood protection works and changes to coastal Poseidonos Avenue.

Greece 2nd in Blue Flag awards in the world

Greece clinched second spot in the world in the number of blue flags with 486 of its beaches receiving the award, announced the Hellenic Society for the protection of Nature (HSPN), with 12 Greek marinas also picking up blue flags. Greece had 25% of the total of the 47 countries that took part in the international program, with the region of Chalkidiki getting 71.
