Weather: Gusty winds are coming in the next hours

The weather is changing again and after a noticeable drop in temperature on Thursday (27/6) and Friday (28/6), strong winds are expected to start blowing tonight and escalate today Saturday 29 June, in many parts of the country.

According to EMY, on Saturday (29/6) the winds will blow from northerly directions, in the west 4 to 5 and in the Ionian locally 6 Beaufort, in the east 5 to 7 and in the Aegean locally 8 Beaufort, while they are expected to weaken gradually from Sunday. Also, the temperature will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in the north, 35 to 37 degrees in the west, 33 to 36 degrees in the rest of the mainland and 29 to 32 degrees Celsius in the eastern islands and 34 to 35 degrees Celsius in some places in the south.

In fact, a coordination meeting on the high risk of fires, due to very strong winds, was held at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, while the 2nd stage of operational readiness of the Fire Corps is being implemented and aerial surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces.

Where the fire risk is high

The fire risk is very high for six regions of the country on Saturday 29/6, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate & Civil Protection.

The Fire Department appeals to the citizens:

-To be particularly careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire outbreak.

-To monitor the forest fire prevention information available on the Fire Department’s website and official Fire Department, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

If they become aware of a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Department at the call number 199.

“We ask all citizens to be particularly careful and in case of fire, for their own safety, to follow strictly the instructions of the competent authorities,” the Fire Department’s announcement concludes.
