Wildfire in Evia rages on, all-night battle by firefighters

The fire that erupted on Monday afternoon on Evia Island continued to blaze through the night, prompting additional evacuations as firefighters worked tirelessly to control the flames.

During the night and early Tuesday morning, new evacuation alerts were issued via 112 messages to residents in Klimaki, Liani Ammo, Petries, and Krieza.

The number of agroforestry fires that occurred in the last 24 hours of which 43 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while firefighting forces continue to deal with 11 fires, as the Fire Brigade’s spokesman, Fire Brigadier Vassilis Vathrakogiannis, stressed a short while ago during an emergency briefing.

Very high fire risk on Saturday in Crete and the North & South Aegean regions

Very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted tomorrow in the region of Crete and in areas of the North and South Aegean regions, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection.

With no active front is the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in a forest area in Stimanga, Corinthia, but firefighting forces remain in the area as there are scattered outbreaks.
