Jankovic beats Peterson to advance to Guangzhou quarters

GUANGZHOU - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic is through to the quarter-finals of the Guangzhou tennis tournament after Sweden's Rebecca Peterson retired from their Round 2 match on Wednesday.

Second-seeded Jankovic, who was leading 6-1, 1-0, will next play Sabine Lisicki of Germany, who beat Shuai Peng of China 6-4, 6-1.

The prize money in Guangzhou is 250,000 dollars.

Jankovic gets off to successful start in China

GUANGZHOU - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic has got off to a successful start of her Asian tour by beating Xiaodi You of China 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round of the Guangzhou WTA tennis tournament on Tuesday.

Second-seeded Jankovic will next face Rebecca Peterson of Sweden.

Bulgaria's second-highest ranking female tennis player Sesil Karatancheva proceeded to the second round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament, which is taking place in Sobota/Rokietnica in Poland.

Karatancheva defeated the representative of the hosts Katarzyna Piter with 6:2, 7:5.
